The Burj KhalifaThe Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, has a laundry list of superlatives. Greatest number of stories, highest occupied floor, longest travel distance elevator, world's highest swimming pool. Perhaps none of these would have been achievable without the great advances that have been made in concrete technology over the past 20 to 30 years.

Proliner, from Prodim, is a masurement by wire device that can be used for a quality control in the production process for windmills. The Proliner has a measuring head that can be rotated in every direction and has a wire that can be stretched out for several meters. At the end of the wire is a metal measuring pen. With this measuring pen , the user can simply mark the relevant points. These points are directly translated into a digital DXF CAD file

Leica Microsystems and Digital Surf have signed an agreement whereby Leica Map surface imaging and metrology software based upon Digital Surf's Mountains Technology will be used with the Leica Application Suite (LAS) for Leica industrial microscopes.

The Breuckmann b-INSPECT 3D scans the entire surface of a turbine balde rather than individual points, enabling it to measure even complex surfaces at very accurate detail. Regardless of material (cast parts, composite materials etc.) or surface characteristics (forged, milled or polished), the system delivers highl precise three-dimensional data. The scan process is contact free and can capture fragile or easily deformed objects (e.g. made of wax or ceramic) quickly and without any difficulty.

Visual operations management software delivers real-time collection of quality data at international heavy vehicle manufacturer, Navistar. Thanks to a Six Sigma project and new defect-tracking software system that helps collect quality data in real-time, Navistar's Chatham plant in Ontario, Canada, has forged a path to in-process quality improvement.

Spirit AeroSystems (Europe) Limited is the largest airframe supplier to Airbus and a key supplier of major wing structures, such as leading and trailing edges, with "life of program" contracts. Its Prestwick operation delivers products across the entire Airbus range, including the new A380 aircraft. The site also produces leading edges for Boeing 777 and 767 wings.

Automated inspection of F1 piston ringsAn established automotive supplier in Lower Saxony, Germany, expert in the manufacture of a range of combustion engine components, set out to automate their process for the manufacture and test of the U-Flex piston ring. These rings, manufactured to extremely accurate tolerances for Formula 1 applications, relied on highly labour intensive inspection and costly external contract measurements.

Airbus commissioned LAP, the German specialists in laser-based measuring and projection technology to provide 220 laser projection systems. LAP will now become a strategic partner of EADS / Airbus.

Automated metrology  reduces inspection cycle time by more than 80% at Airbus. A metrology software tool allows users to quickly import native format Catia V5 master models, measure points from various devices and obtain real-time graphical feedback and analysis.
